List at least 5 characteristics you feel are important in a good coach. Identify why each of these is important to you.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

The characteristics that I believe make for an excellent coach are:

1. The ability to lead and inspire. A person can have the best skills, knowledge, experience and training but if they don’t know how to share it with others then what good are any of those qualities?

2. Integrity and trustworthiness. It is difficult enough to earn people's respect and admiration when all things are equal; it becomes nearly impossible if their actions cause doubt as to whether they stand by their word or not.

3. Communication skills. In order to be an effective leader one must be able to communicate effectively with many different types of individuals. If one cannot clearly convey the message they want to send then no amount of skill will help them get their point across.

4. Empathy, kindness and understanding. When you have someone who is willing to listen and understand your needs, even before you speak, this makes for strong relationships between individuals. This also allows for better communication because they care more about what is going on in your life.

5. Positive energy. There is much evidence which suggests that a positive attitude has significant benefits towards physical and emotional health. A positive mindset will allow you to be more creative and productive.

These characteristics are just a small part of what I believe makes for an excellent coach, but I believe the most important thing about being a great coach is knowing yourself and understanding your strengths and weaknesses so you can focus on developing the parts of the job you are best suited for.
