You have been asked to write an essay about real versus virtual interactions. Which of the following contains the best thesis statement and supporting ideas for this essay?
Some people have replaced their real social lives with online social media.
When we put things on social media we get to post what we want to say and leave out the bad parts of our lives.
Talking to someone in person creates a feeling of real connection instead of just reading words online.
Thesis statement:
Overuse of social media in place of face-to-face interactions can negatively affect how we connect as a society.
Supporting details:
Social networking limits our thinking. Online social networks are programmed in a way that creates "echo chambers" where you tend to talk only with people who have similar opinions as you do.
Virtual interactions create barriers and take away a feeling of togetherness. A technology, such as a computer screen or an app on your phone, is placed between you and the person you are communicating with.
Online conversations allow people to be hurtful and rude. People act differently online than they do in person because the consequences for posting mean or inappropriate things are lower than when speaking face-to-face.
Thesis statement:
Negative consequences are coming for our world if we as a society cannot stop interacting online instead of face-to-face.
Supporting details:
My "friends" say very mean things to me and other people when they are online. Things they would never say when we are talking in person. This is a good reason why we need to limit social media.
It is so creepy how people stalk their friends online and know what they are doing at all times. This one person on my social media used to "like" every single post of mine until I decided to "unfriend" her.
Another thing that I don't like is how people have made it a national holiday to shop online on Thanksgiving Day. They don't want to be with their families but instead they are spending money on the Internet.
The first option shows a better thesis statement and supporting ideas. This thesis statement reads: "Overuse of social media in place of face-to-face interactions can negatively affect how we connect as a society."
What is a thesis statement? It is the conclusion of the essay introduction. It presents the main argument of the essay.Presents a summary of the main point of the essay. The thesis statement is very important because it establishes the central point of the text, showing the approach that the author will present. Supporting ideas, on the other hand, are responsible for supporting the thesis statement and showing information that proves this thesis statement, conveying reliability to the reader, and enriching the text.

I glanced at my watch to become so fixated on the time, it read 4:43pm August 23rd 2025. Being an ex military officer you see a part of the world not many get to see, the violent cold nature of battle. No one on the battlefield are really enemies, we are just pitted against each other, in the end we are just doing our job so that no one else carries that burden. We pity our enemies as they cry for help, the screams drive most insane but the ones that aren't shaken take it the worst. I hate war. In this world dictated by a paper note, you can get anything if you have enough money. Money creates greed and greed breeds hate therefore relationships shatter and nations fall into chaos. Well that's what got us into this mess 3 years ago when WW3 started with Ukraine and Russia, 3 years ago that was, and they managed to drag every nation into it. Little did anyone know a progessive bomb was created, which couldnt be disarmed and only grows in power, doubling every year. A weapon which gives full control over the world to one nation, to the individual who controls it. A threat which endangered every living being on the pale blue dot called Earth. The world bomb it was called, currently able to incinerate half the planet in an instant, soon to be capable of wiping 8 billion people off the planet. One would now say there's nothing we can do, yet as I stand before the fuse only one answer seemed to cross my mind. How could anything be more important than keeping humanity from being totally wiped out? You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain they said. As I pulled the fuse to be engulfed by the white light the words leave my mouth, “So, was I a hero or a villain”
I'm the same as you i didn't have a choice (not sure if i should add this last line)

A top secret nuclear weapon developed by Russia which gives control over the world to one nation, to the individual who controls it. I find the "...in the end we are just doing our job so that no one else carries that burden." more intriguing, I don't know why necessarily, it makes the draft all the more put-together.
If I were you, I wouldn't include the last line you aren't sure about- I like the cliffhanger of “So, was I a hero or a villain...”
(Of course, if it doesn't fit 300 words without the last bit, keep it!)

1What notable contrast did Achebe recognize between
Time magazine's assessment of Joyce Cary's novel Mister Johnson and his own
assessment of the work? In An African Voice
The notable contrast which Achebe recognized between Time magazine's assessment of Joyce Cary's novel Mister Johnson and his own assessment of the work is:
He disagreed with Joyce Cary's description of Africans as having "an undertow of uncharitableness ... a contagion of distaste, hatred, and mockery." and wrote Things Fall Apart to show the African perspective.Who is Chinua Achebe? He is a Ni-gerian nobel laureate who has written several critically acclaimed novels such as Things Fall Apart and No Longer At Ease, amongst others.
With this in mind, we can note that the Time magazine declared the Joyce Cary's novel Mister Johnson as "the best book ever written about Africa" and this was in contrast with Achebe's thought as the book was written from a European perspective to colonization.
Hence, Chinua Achebe responded with his book Things Fall Apart to show the African perspective to European colonization and to show the Ni-gerians in a better light than was originally painted by Joyce Cary.
